Meet David, Master Farmer:
What began as a love of cooking (and eating) is now much more! I started as a young chef with a dream to farm. After years spent learning the importance of excellent quality ingredients in the kitchen, I couldn’t help myself: I had to get dirty! Even after 19 years of farming I still learn something new everyday on the farm. I love growing produce to support my local community. It’s what it’s all about in the end, communities coming together to support each other, our health, and our environment. Let’s eat!
Meet Sara, Farm Manager:
If you have come by the farm, called or emailed I most likely have talked to you! There’s not much here at Blue Sky Organic Farms that I don’t have a hand in and that’s the way I like it. There are so many moving parts to running a farm it has been a joy to watch it grow. The farm store and the new CSA program being two of my favorite recent projects. I am here because I strongly believe in organics and natural living AND most definitely supporting our environment by buying local. One of my secret talents is holistic dog nutrition, which I love to talk about. So next time you see me and one of my ten dogs say hello!
Meet Renee, Assistant Manager/Tour Director:
I am a native to the valley and have yet to stray. After teaching for seven years and working in an office environment for a few years, I met Sara. We met through a mutual love for chickens and I soon began working in the farm kitchen part-time making applesauce and jam for the farm store. Between the joy I find in working with animals, and my organic eating regimen, it was clear that there was no better place for me to spend my time than on an organic farm!
I have since managed the farm store and assisted Sara in a multitude of farm related duties. Currently, I am working on expanding the Farm Tour program and building a Children’s Field Trip program as well, which is second nature due to my teaching experience. I feel quite blessed to be a part of the Blue Sky Family. We are all looking forward to a great season! See you at the farm!
If you’ve been by our farm store to pick up some fresh veggies or a CSA box, then you’ve probably met me! I was born & raised on Maui, so growing up I spent a lot of time outdoors surrounded by all kinds of edible plants – papaya, mango, guava, liliko’i (which you may know as passion fruit), pineapple, coconut… all fresh and ready to be enjoyed at their peak. This, as well as my mom taking me to farmers markets and small produce stands, gave me an appreciation for fresh, local ingredients and small farms. After relocating to the Valley, I started working in the Blue Sky Farm Store, where I was able to combine my love for wholesome, tasty, local foods with teaching people about the importance and benefits of buying from local growers – especially if they’re organic! You can now find me slinging fresh produce at one of our Farmers Market booths. Everyday is always a little different and exciting here on the farm, and I’m happy to be a part of the Blue Sky Family.
I have lived in the Valley since I was a small child and grew up appreciating the beautiful desert we live in. I worked as a paralegal for 10 years before becoming a Certified Management Accountant and starting my own practice. My experience in private practice handling personal and corporate returns prepared me to fully integrate myself into the knowledge and operations of Blue Sky’s Farm. As the Farm’s accountant, I work behind the scenes and I love to interact with our terrific customers. I love that we have access to wonderful, fresh, nutritious and delicious produce, all of which can be obtained locally and organically! Food is medicine and I believe we can heal ourselves as a community from the inside out. I love working at Blue Sky because each day is completely different from the next. The team here is terrific and supportive. We know you’ll love the Farm too!
